Frequently Asked Questions
What does Daniel Alan Tax charge?
Here at Daniel Alan Tax, our fees are based on how many tax documents you have, and how complicated they are. Our 2024 Pricing Sheet shows our categories, levels, and additional fees. You do not need to pick out your level before we make your return. This will be determined for you once we complete your return. If you would like an estimate of what your fee will be, we can give you an estimated price based off your last year’s tax return.
What is the typical turnaround time for a tax return?
Times can vary based on how complicated your return is, but you can expect to hear from us within 2 weeks of submitting your tax documents. After that, your time will depend on how many additional documents we need and how long it takes to get them.
What do I need to gather?
Tax documents are never the same for every client, but you can use our New Client Checklist to see a list of documents that may apply to you. Returning clients will receive a checklist from us in January listing all the documents we used for you in the prior year.
How do I get my documents to my preparer?
The best way to submit your tax documents is through the SmartVault portal. If you do not have an account in the SmartVault please email us at info@danielalantax.com and we can send you’re an invitation. If you prefer to deliver paper copies you can drop off your documents any time Monday through Friday 9-5 at our front desk. If you do not live close by, you can also mail your documents to 134 Industry Lane, Suite 5, Forest Hill, MD 21050.
How do I pay the IRS?
When we file your tax return, you have 3 options for making a payment:
- You can pay through an e-withdrawal with your return. This is the recommended way to pay. All we need is your account and routing numbers and we can do the rest. This is the only option that we can handle for you.
- You can mail checks to the IRS and state. If you prefer to mail a check, let us know so that we can have a payment voucher ready for you.
- You can pay online. You will have to go to the irs.gov and state websites and pay through their portals.
How can I check my refund status?
For your federal return, you can go to irs.gov/refunds and enter your information to find your return. It may be helpful to have a copy of the return on hand. Most states have a similar site where you can enter your information and they can match it to your return. To find it, search “*your state* where’s my refund”.
What types of returns do you file?
We file tax returns for individuals, partnerships, small businesses, corporations, estates, and trusts. This includes annual tax returns such as a 1040s, 1120s, or 1041s, along with not as common returns such as the 709 (Gift Tax Return). Our team has experience filing many different types of returns, so if you need one that is not listed here don’t hesitate to give us a call and we can talk more about it.
What services do you provide for small businesses?
We have a bookkeeping team at Daniel Alan Tax that can help your business throughout the whole year. We will keep your books, provide quarterly payment amounts, and give customized reports as requested.
